Energy efficiency ‘Green Deal’ launched by governmentHouseholders are to be offered long-term loans to help make their homes more energy efficient and cut bills under a new government scheme. Ministers said the Green Deal, which started on Monday, will help thousands “stay warm for less”. Under the scheme, households can use cheap loans to spend on energy-saving improvements, such as insulation and new boilers, with no upfront cost. The Green Deal is an innovative financing mechanism that lets people pay for energy-efficiency improvements through savings on their energy bills. Green Deal launches today and applies to both the domestic and non-domestic sector. It replaces current policies such as the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) and the Community Energy Saving Programme (CESP). The government has appointed a Green Deal Registration and Oversight Body. Part of their role is to register the organisations that are approved to deliver the Green Deal – Advisors, Providers and Installers. http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/Take-action/Find-a-grant/Green-Deal-and-ECO |
