Solar PV Production July 2023

July 2023 was wet, cold and generally grim. Sun levels well below forecasts. Rest of Europe basking in sun shin with record hot temperatures and sundry wild fires burning especially in Greece.

A month ago Solar Edge released a new version of the Solar Monitor app with a better battery management system. Rather than having to accept the battery charge plan commissioned at installation by the installer the user now has the option to set Time of use option or Maximise Self Consumption.

The software is still in Beta mode and learning. Results so far seem positive with less power being exported and the battery charging to lower levels on some nights.

Switched to new Octopus Tariff

As our existing Octopus Go tariff expires in August we made the switch to Octopus Intelligent.

This is a replacement for Go and available to EV owners. With this rate Octopus talk to your car and determines a charge plan each night. You need to configure your car with the Octopus app and set charge levels and time of departure. So far this seems to work reasonably well. Full report to follow.
