French November EV market

Tesla Model 3 red refresh

French car sales: November 2022 data

Like most of Europe France has seen declining new car sales for most months of this year. November was a slight exception with November sales increasing 10% Year on Year to just over 133,000 units bringing the year-to-date sales to 1.37 million representing a 9% drop compared to the previous year.

The market share of cars with plus once again expanded to 35,000 units to take a 24.3% maket share representing a 16% growth in units Y on Y.

Within the plug share the pure battery EVs, such as Teslas, grew to 20,000 units, as 24% increase to take a reasonable 15% share of the total car market. The others are of course Plug in Hybrids or PHEVs such as the BMW 545e xDrive.

  • Passenger BEVs: 20,274 (up 23.5%) at 15.1% market share

EV Models

Tesla had a great month for French sales. One has to assume that there was a long train or new cars from Giga Berlin to France as over 5,500 units arrived in France.

The Tesla Model Y registered 2,891 units with the Model 3 just a few units behind with 2,809 registrations representing the 10th and 11th most registered model overall.

The Tesla share of EVs 2,891 + 2,809 or 5700 of 22,539 represents 25% of the EV market in units and considerably more in terms of Euros as all the other top ten selling EVs and much lower priced than the two Tesla cars.

As a rough calculation using Telsa model Y and 3 average price of say 55,000 euros compared to say 45,000 for the Dacia, Mini, ID3 combined. Gives Tesla a November income of over 315 million Euro with the other top 8 sharing 750 million Euro.

Tesla continues to cream the market.
